Skunk Odor

This is the most difficult odor to eliminate and may require repeat application.

Skunk Odor on Clothing and Fabrics ** See “Fabric and Clothing”. Follow the directions in this section using a solution of 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water.

Skunk Odor on Pets

When your dog or cat gets “skunked”, use Odormute to rinse your pet in the following manner: Mix 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water. It is best to bathe your pet while he is outdoors, to avoid him getting in contact with any household items. Also, you should wear gloves to avoid contact with the skunk odor. Thoroughly soak your pet’s coat with the solution. Avoid direct contact with the pet’s eyes; use a soaked washcloth if needed around eyes, nose and mouth. Allow the mixture to dry for about 1 hour. Afterwards, rinse your pet thoroughly with cool water, then repeat by washing your pet with cool water again. If skunk odor is still detected, repeat the entire process.

Afterwards, wash your pet with your favorite pet shampoo. Enzymes may be irritating to skin on some animals. If skin redness or irritation occurs, discontinue use and wash your pet thoroughly with water.

Walls, Floors and Other Surfaces Exposed to Skunk Odor

Mix Odormute solution at a ratio of 1 tablespoon to 1 quart of warm water. Use a hand-held sprayer (or a larger Lawn and Garden Sprayer depending on the surface area to be treated). Spray any surface that may have been exposed to the odor through direct contact or air-borne odor. The solution may be sprayed on draperies if the contact was not direct, but airborne. On some surfaces such as wood paneling, a slight residue may be left after drying. This can be removed with a damp cloth.
